Pot Kettle Black 2008
About the beer:
A huge wall of New Zealand hops hit you from the outset with aromas of orange, pine and tropical fruits intertwined in the chocolaty coffee character of the dark malt. Beware: the hop bitterness and black malt may come across as a little confrontational, to the uninitiated, but this is well balanced by the full, rich malt sweetness. The extended lingering dry hop finish leaves you wanting more than just another mouthful. The resulting beer is moreish, nutritious and delicious.

Public reaction:
"...I found the beer absolutely delicious (and so did my wife) and firmly in my top three for the night along with Twisted Hop Skull Buggery and Renaissance Bourbon Porter." - James Kemp, SOBA member [link]
"...some world class beers. My picks would be Twisted Hop Goldings on cask, Mussel Inn Lambergoosy (feijoa Guese style), Townsends No 9 on cask, Yeasty Boys Pot Kettle Black on handpump, and Twisted Hop Skullbuggery on cask." - Kieran Haslett-Moore, BrewNZ judge and SOBA vice President [link]
"One of my favourite beers of the night was the Yeastie Boys’ Pot Kettle Black. This is an American style porter and very dark... Not just to be awkward, I preferred the smoother texture of the hand-pull, but I felt the chocolate and hop flavours came through better from the pressurised tap. Him outdoors stuck his nose in the tasting glass, took a swig, smacked his lips and muttered something about ‘orange and pine’." - Kate Blackhurst, www.crouchinggiraffe.blogspot.com [link]
"The PKB was absolutely first rate........ It was one of my standouts at the Beervana event without doubt." - Doug Donelan, NZ Hops.
Not only does PKB give Renaissance Stonecutter Stone Ale and the Mussel Inn Pale Whale Ale a run for their money in the “hard to pronounce properly after two pints stakes”, it is actually an intriguing beer. It is a heavily hopped New World porter with a fresh, citrus nose, a full body which mixes decadent chocolate malt with berry fruit notes followed by long, lingering finish. - Neil Miller, Beer Writer [link]
And just to show that we won't switch off if your comments aren't full of praise:
"...no offence, but Pot Kettle Black is not nice. It taste like drinking a Christmas tree. I like a hoppy beer but that is not drinkable. Looking forward to trying your other brews." - Yeastie Boy t-shirt competition winner.
